With my first art project in Istanbul I’m aiming at finding points of contact between where I’m coming from – Switzerland – and where I’m now – Turkey.

Having chosen “Lovely View” – one of my first name’s meanings – as a theme, I’m inviting all Selmas of Istanbul to participate in the first round of my project: to have their photograph taken at a location of their choice. Each Selma will then receive a print of that photograph and leave to me the right for further use, in exhibitions and publications.

Historically, the name Selma was introduced into Turkey by the Arabs and is as widely known, here, as it has been in Switzerland in the 18th century, where it was spread under the influence of the Ossian poetry.

Today, the name Selma is rarely to be found in Switzerland, so that I’ve never met a person with that same name. 

The Selma Project evolved from being filled with the desire to meet other Selmas and thus to get into contact with different women in Istanbul.
